Nine feet tall?
4' of added bronze, perhaps?
Just how tall was he?
The BBC described him as 5'4" when he first played.
Often, I've heard 5'7".
Certainly he generated a high velocity from his frame.
I can't imagine facing a 9' tall Larwood with the same mechanics!

Do you have any photos of him standing next to others of 'known height?'

Enid - It has been so interesting to read details of your family life from way back. We were at Palatine together, my name being Hoard then. I often wondered what happened to you - communication was very slow in our youth!! I left Blackpool when I got married and now live in Aylesbury, Bucks. 40 miles from London. My husband is a cricket fan and noticed your appearance on Test Match Special and at Lords. We do hope you enjoy your trip over here. Pleased to hear you still come back to the old country and keep your Dad's memory alive.

All best wishes. Marion

Hi. I just wanted to say hello and express how pleased I am to see Harold's story depicted on this website. A great job you have done indeed! I was pleased to be able to contribute in some small way by way of 'The Silent Killer' article.

If i may, a small correction, the author's name is Duncan Hamilton. Apologies for the pedantry! I was very pleased to meet Duncan at a recent book festival in Lowdham, Nottinghamshire, promoting his excellent new book about Harold Larwood. After Duncan's terrific award-winning book about Brian Clough it was clear that the story of Harold Larwood was in very good and sympathetic hands.

Continued best wishes with your excellent site!

My father was from Nottinghamshire and we, as kids, always played a game of backyard cricket in Toowoomba every weekend (c.1959), with Dad mimicking his best "Larwood" style with a tennis ball coming at us 7 or 8YO's at an alarming pace. We didn't appreciate the irony of it then, but we are still passing this on to our kids nowadays. I live in Cairns, and my 10YO daughter refuses to face me when I start the "Larwood" run-up at her, armed usually with a 20gram plastic/fairy ball in my hand....She runs off, screaming, to her Mum.
Harolds' legacy lives on through the generations.

I have a bat signed by himself and Jack Hobbs (and a few other, sadly unidentifiable players) that takes pride of place right next to my Steve Waugh autographed-bat behind my bar at home here.

It's not a new bat, but it's more coveted, by a long shot.

Cheers, and thank you for the great personal insight into a dedicated English sportsman.
